Ah hah, if the white light stopped when you shorted your body cord, I suspect that your foil is the culprit. Still, let's do one more test. While you keep your cord shorted, wiggle the cord near the point that the cord wire meets the cord plug. Make sure that you keep good contact between the B and C lines with that screwdriver or foil guard. Still no white light?
"No white light! That means my foil is broken. How do I fix a foil?"
"Dagnabbit, the white light came back."
If your white light returns when you wiggle your body cord, and you're sure that the short didn't slip, your body cord is probably broken.
