The good news is that your foil is probably fine. Now let's check your body cord.
This time, you'll short out the B and C lines where your body cord meets the reel socket. To do this, unplug your cord from the reel socket--not all the way, just enough to insert something conductive between the B and C lines, such as that handy screwdriver or the blade of your foil. Be careful that your plug stays in contact with the reel socket.
Is the white light still on?
"Yes. Darn, the white light is still on when I ground out my body cord at the reel socket."
"No! The white light stops when I ground out my body cord at the reel socket!"
The end of your body cord that plugs into the reel has three metal posts sticking out of it. The A and B lines are close together, with B in the middle, and the C line stands away by itself. One way to remember which is which is to hold the plug with the small gap on the left and say, "A, B, and C." The larger gap between the B and the C is for the "and."
